More than one story
2022-2024
More Than 1 Story’ brought people together after the isolation of covid. Helston Community Kitchen provides free meals and a safe space where everyone is welcome.
We visited the kitchen over the course of a year and at this time people were still social distancing, even though those rules had been lifted. Given the nature of the group and the legacy of covid, we decided to take a slow burn approach to introducing our creative project.
Initially, we played card games to get to know people and as the weeks the went on, we became familiar faces. Having established the group’s trust we began to introduce creative activities such collage, printmaking and water colour.
Everyone particularly enjoyed the printmaking and we decided to turn their images into tablecloths that could be used each week at the kitchen. We also created a pack cards with the prints and everyone was given a pack of their own.
Everyone loved the tablecloths and had real pride in showing and sharing what they had created.
Encouraged by the success of the tablecloths, we created a ‘stained glass’ window, a vinyl print on perspex, using the group’s still-life paintings of luscious flowers, fruit and vegetables
